Home Headquarters

The Alexander Technique of Syracuse offers private lessons and small group classes in the Alexander Technique. The hallmark of the technique is the relief of excess tension in sitting, standing, walking, bending, breathing, speaking and really (really!) just about any human activity. You learn to relieve and prevent pain. You reduce muscular tension and find […]

Kelly Richards, Psy.D., and Syracuse Therapeutic Yoga have a very bittersweet announcement

richards_goot

Kelly Richards, Psy.D., and Syracuse Therapeutic Yoga have a very bittersweet announcement: After conducting business for over a year at Studio 241 in the Delavan Center, our businesses have blossomed, and we have grown out of our beautiful studio. As such, we are leaving the Delavan Center and transplanting our roots to a new location in historic Tipperary Hill. This new location allows us to offer more office times, more classes, workshops, and other wellness opportunities to provide to our community. We would like to express our gratitude to the Delavan Center and all of the wonderful artists and wellness providers within the building who have provided us with support and encouragement as we first began nurturing the seedlings of our businesses here. We wish everyone lots of luck and wellness.

Starting Monday, November 10th, we can be found at 114 North Lowell Avenue, Syracuse, NY 13204.

The Power of Meaningful Relationships – My Monthly Postcard – November

Effective communication is essential to maintaining relationships. We often think of communication as the verbal or written words that we express to others. However, there are so many others ways in which we communicate to those around us. Our nonverbal behavior, our silence, our presence or absence. We communicate through music, drawings, images, dance, and all other art forms. The assumptions that we make are also forms of communication. I invite all of you join in on the challenge that I present to my best friend this month – push the boundaries of how you define communication and communicate your thoughts, love, feelings, ideas, gratitude, etc. with others in your life.

november-postcard

“The 1st week of November is World Communication Week. Our communication with each other is one of the most powerful tools that we possess. As you read through this postcard, take in each suggestion and recognize how they represent different forms of communication. This month, I challenge you to communicate. Push the boundaries of how you define communication and find little moments to communicate your thoughts, love, feelings, ideas, gratitude, etc. with others in your life.”

Previous Postcards:
OCTOBER - …explore art. Create it, view it, visit it, seek it out, find it in hidden places.”

SEPTEMBER - …I invite you to take moments to foster your childlike creativity. Let it flourish. Let it inspire you.”

AUGUST - let yourself explore. Build community for yourself. Throughout this journey, give yourself permission to struggle.”

JULY - acknowledging and speaking our truths about where our world is still lacking in providing freedom to be our authentic selves can be incredibly valuable.”

JUNE - As the Solstice nears, decide how you would like to honor the cycles of nature and welcome summer. Allow your mind to create any possibility. Then, take action. Truly celebrate.”

I grew up in a house with original art; I learned to see the world through a frame of the artist, cropping what I saw all the time. I grew up on horseback, out in nature noticing the subtle changes every day as the seasons progressed. I live through those two disciplines: composing every minute […]
